More Storm Talk Dates!

Colour me geeky, but I’m very excited to announce that I’m doing my ‘Animating Storm’ talk at Dragon*Con in Atlanta. If you’re unfamiliar with D*C, it’s the world’s largest fantasy, sci fi, gaming and comics festival in the world. I was born to be there, frankly, so getting to go AND talk about Storm is somewhat of a dream come true.

It’s part of the fantastic Skeptic Track which also includes James Randi, George Hrab, Rebecca Watson and many others. My talk will be on Friday 3rd September 2010 at 5.30pm.

Obviously I don’t expect you all to jump on a plane with me (although I’d love that so much), so if you’re looking for a date (not THAT sort of date) in the UK, there are two forthcoming talks I’d like to invite you to:

Monday August 30th, The Monarch, Camden, London, 7.30pm

http://www.facebook.com/event.php?eid=147939518564114

http://london.skepticsinthepub.org/Event.aspx/354/Animating-Storm

Wednesday September 8th, The Victoria, Birmingham, 7.30pm

http://birmingham.skepticsinthepub.org/Event.aspx/299/Storm

Hopefully Director DC Turner will be able to join us for both talks to answer questions, his schedule willing.

If you can make it to any of the above talks, we’d love to see you!

There’s No Such Thing As A Psychic

Howdy folks, DC here.

I thought I’d share some fresh character sketches with y’all.

Here are some initial drafts of a rather deviant psychic who shows up half way through the film;

“Lying to some crying woman whose child has died

And telling her you’re in touch with the other side?

I reckon that’s fundamentally sick.

Do we need to clarify here

That there’s no such thing as a psychic?”

Psychic-sketches_final

We only meet him briefly so I wanted him to be immediately dislikeable; pointy fingers, pointy hair, pointy ears, pointy lips – if you gave him a hug, you’d cut yourself. Not a nice chap.

Does he get what’s coming to him?

You’ll have to wait until October to find out.  ;D

(he does)

Edinburgh Talk Tomorrow!

Hey all,

Just a quick note in case you haven’t seen on Twitter, the details of my Edinburgh talk tomorrow:

Banshee Labyrinth Edinburgh, EH1 1LG, this Friday 20th Aug, 6.30pm, Here’s the general blurb:

What’s the talk about?

Tim Minchin’s Storm is a 9-minute beat poem which has already attracted three quarter of a million views on YouTube and has become the anthem for critical thinking worldwide.

The animated version of Storm will be premiered in October 2010. Producer Tracy King will be talking about how the film came about and giving exclusive insight into the team’s process, including showing you exclusive artwork, footage and lyrics not available to the public!

Tracy King runs a busy marketing company in London, UK whose clients include various skeptic organisations such as JREF. Her mainstream clients have included UCAS, Lloyds TSB and Macmillan Publishing. She is the Producer of Tim Minchin’s Storm movie, the organiser of TAM London and the co-organiser of The Big Libel Gig. Tracy speaks on a range of topics including viral marketing and advertising psychology, is a gaming and comics geek, and has a world record for spoonbending.

Sneaky Peak!

Hey all,

Once again, sorry for the lack of, well, anything on the blog lately. I promise it’s not because we’re slacking – quite the opposite. In fact we’re so busy we’ve taken on a couple of new Storm team members, who I will be introducing here soon.

In the meantime, I thought you might like to know about a couple of events that I’m doing around the UK to promote Storm and give you guys something in return for your support over the past year.

The talk will include exclusive sneak peaks at footage and artwork from the film, an insight into the background of the project, and even some never-before-heard Storm lyrics from Tim which didn’t make it into the final poem.

The first of these is tomorrow, Monday 9th August, in Sheffield. Details are here. Storm Director DC Turner will be joining me to answer any questions you have about his side of things.

The next is Monday 30th August at London Skeptics in the Pub, Camden. I’ll post details soon. The third scheduled talk is Wednesday 8th Sept at Birmingham Skeptics in the Pub. Again, I’ll post details when I have them, but if you’re local and can make it I’d love to see you.

I’d like to cover as much of the UK as I can before the premiere on October 16th, so if you have a local skeptic, animation or other group which would like to host the talk, please do let me know in the comments.

Hopefully see you there!

Tracy

It’s all happening somewhere

Hey folks,

It’s been a while since the last post, but ironically that’s because DC has been too busy working on Storm to put anything up! There’ll be more pics and some new footage soon, but in the meantime if you need a Tim fix and missed him on tonight’s Friday Night with Jonathan Ross just now, you can catch it on iPlayer (UK only, sorry).

Back soon with Storm stuff, promise!

Tracy
