This blog will be retired and replaced with a full website in a few days, but all of the content will be archived so you can still see artwork etc. You’ll also be able to buy Storm merchandise including t-shirts and posters.

I’m pleased to say it’s currently with the sound effects team – who are volunteering their time for free  - so I’m hoping that we’re a few weeks away. There are a couple of tweaks to be made to the animation itself, but I should be able to set a release date as soon as we get something back from the audio team.

In the meantime I’ll put up some screenshots and teasers to get us all back into excited mode!

Storm has made it onto the BAFTA longlist, which is the final round before the three shortlisted nominations from which the winner is chosen. We’re amazed, pleased, chuffed, delighted, shocked and overjoyed to have made it this far, and even if we don’t go any further, it’s still a game-changing accolade of which everyone who has supported or worked on the film should be very proud.

We’re still a while away from being able to upload the finished film to YouTube, and I really appreciate your patience. The film festival interest, plus things like BAFTA, have taken the project into a slightly different timescale from the one we originally intended, but in the grand scheme of things that can only be good for Storm and the story it tells. Thanks for bearing with us!

You may have heard by now that our YouTube launch is delayed, but for excellent reasons. Following its festival premiere at Animated Encounters, we’ve had offers from other film festivals which means we can’t yet put the film in the public domain. I’ll keep you updated with festival dates as when I have them, and I’ll try and arrange some private screenings in the UK at events like Skeptics in the Pub so those of you near one of those can come along and see it early. Hopefully it’ll be online in the next few months though, free on YouTube as we’ve always planned but also available in HD from iTunes.

We’ve had some fantastic media coverage already, including a lovely long plug for Storm during Tim’s recent appearance on the Chris Moyles show. Sadly the show is no longer online, but there is this…er…interesting video of them both where Mr Moyles demonstrates that he likes his donuts WI’ JAM IN.

Tim Minchin and director DC Turner will be discussing Storm and animation in general at a special evening entitled Desert Island Flicks.

Just £8.00 (£6.00 conc), this will be the first chance to see Storm since its premiere at TAM London last month, and a unique event. You can book tickets at http://www.encounters-festival.org.uk/2010-programme/animated/tim-minchins-desert-island-flicks.html

The finished film will do the festival circuit before being uploaded for free, and as that may not be til early 2011 we recommend coming along on Thursday if you want to see the movie! Plus you get the company of Tim and me (with Tracy somewhere near the bar) while you watch. What could be better?

We’re in the final few weeks of animating Storm, and I’m delighted to welcome a few new team members. One of them, Kei Phillips, is providing supporting character, props and background artwork, and we’re very excited to have her on board. Take at look at her work on her blog, Kei Frames, and you’ll see why we’re so excited that she agreed to join the team. Kei’s art style is a perfect match for the Storm movie, and her characters are simply beautiful.

The first thing we asked Kei to create was the fairy for the scene where Tim describes noticing “the tip of the wing of a fairy” on Storm’s rear end. While in ‘real life’, Tim can only see the tip, his imagination and our animation can take us anywhere, and so we wanted to show the fairy in her entirety, giving a cheeky wink and blowing a kiss. Here is the fairy, enjoy!

If you’re unfamiliar with D*C, it’s the world’s largest fantasy, sci fi, gaming and comics festival in the world. I was born to be there, frankly, so getting to go AND talk about Storm is somewhat of a dream come true.

It’s part of the fantastic Skeptic Track which also includes James Randi, George Hrab, Rebecca Watson and many others. My talk will be on Friday 3rd September 2010 at 5.30pm.

Obviously I don’t expect you all to jump on a plane with me (although I’d love that so much), so if you’re looking for a date (not THAT sort of date) in the UK, there are two forthcoming talks I’d like to invite you to:

Here are some initial drafts of a rather deviant psychic who shows up half way through the film;

“Lying to some crying woman whose child has died

And telling her you’re in touch with the other side?

I reckon that’s fundamentally sick.

Do we need to clarify here

That there’s no such thing as a psychic?”

We only meet him briefly so I wanted him to be immediately dislikeable; pointy fingers, pointy hair, pointy ears, pointy lips – if you gave him a hug, you’d cut yourself. Not a nice chap.

Does he get what’s coming to him?
